The storied career of Ohio State University’s Director of Athletic Apparel Sales, Jim Tressel, came to an unceremonious halt on Memorial Day 2011.  Clearly conflicted by the events that have unfolded over the past several months, OSU athletic director Gene Smith was quoted as follows: “Jim has led a group of salesmen that are unparalleled as marketing machines, men whose exploits on the football field are mere child’s play when compared to their prowess in the (tattoo) parlor.  Under his tutelage, we have seen quarter-over-quarter improvements in virtually every quarter for the past 10 years.  It is with great sadness that we now part company.  That same passion for marketing and overall competitiveness unfortunately drove Jim to engage in practices that were even more unfortunately uncovered.  If we could do it all again, I really can’t say that we would’ve done anything different.  I mean, after all, we did finally get a win versus the SEC.”  I’m guessing Tress will resurface soon, van doors wide open, loaded with sweet merchandise, probably next to a roadside fruit salesman in rural western Ohio.
